Derek received his Bachelor of Science Degree with Distinction from Purdue University in the field of Mathematics and a Master of Arts in Teaching with a major in Secondary Education from Wayne State University. He has taught at Bloomfield Hills High School since 2006 where he has developed a wide variety of classes ranging from Algebra 1 to AP Calculus BC. His AP Calculus BC students have an average score of 4.3 which is well above the global mean score.
Derek presents his ideas in mathematics education at both the Michigan Council of Teachers of Mathematics statewide conference and Detroit Area Council of Teachers of Mathematics conference. His sessions over the past ten years have been well attended by educators throughout Michigan. He has tutored mathematics for five years covering topics from Algebra 1, ACT/SAT prep, through Calculus 4 at university. In addition he has been trained as an International Baccalaureate High Level (HL) Mathematics instructor and tutored HL maths.
